MACON, Ga. — From her front porch in East Macon, LaJonda Chaney can watch crews breaking ground on what will soon become the new Fort Hill Community Park .

For Chaney, who has lived in the neighborhood for about a year and a half with her three young daughters, the construction represents more than just new playground equipment.

"They was already excited," Chaney said of her daughters' reaction to the park announcement. "'Mama, they're gonna put up a new park' and you know, just very excited that a new park was getting built across the street."

This week, crews dropped off pallets of playground equipment and on Tuesday, they began delivering machinery to break ground. Chaney says it all comes back to her children's safety.
