Authorities on both sides of the St. Clair River are looking for a man who rented a personal watercraft in Sarnia and crossed the river to Michigan, where he abandoned the vessel and disappeared.

The man rented the personal watercraft from Gordons WaterSports on Sarnia Bay Marina on Saturday around 6:45 p.m. and was supposed to return it an hour later. But he never came back and when called by the company, he either made excuses or stopped picking up the phone, Sarnia police said.

Shortly after midnight, the U.S. Coast Guard found the vessel, a life-jacket and a shirt the man was last seen wearing on a Michigan shore just south of Sarnia.

Sarnia police said they have issued an arrest warrant for Romeo Bajrami, 40, of Toronto on one charge of theft of a motor vehicle.
