LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — An autopsy has revealed more details about the death of a missing woman from Lincolnton.

The remains of Candice Aufrecht, 41, were found in February near Dallas, North Carolina . Aufrecht was reported missing in March 2023.

Aufrecht's remains were found in a large toolbox wrapped in a blue tarp. The toolbox was left in the woods about 37 feet from US 351N, according to the autopsy.

The autopsy states Aufrect had a single gunshot wound to the head. Her remains were identified through dental records and personal belongings.

An investigation led to the arrest of Zachary William Ramey, 35, of Blairsville, Georgia, for Aufrect's death. He is charged with murder in Lincoln County and concealment of death in Gaston County. Ramey is being held without bond in Gaston Coun
