EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - You may have seen them, you may not.

These nocturnal critters do their best to stay hidden.

At Evansville’s Mesker Park Zoo, anyone can go to their nocturnal room to catch a glimpse of an armadillo.

But now, you might not even have to go to the zoo to see one.

According to DNR, armadillo sightings have become more common in southern Indiana, and have really ramped up since 2018.

Brad Westrich, the DNR State Mammologist, went into detail on the increase in reports.

“I think a combination of armadillo numbers increasing in southwestern Indiana as well as just getting more common knowledge that the species is here really helped get more reports in so we can really document their spread across the state,” Westrich stated.
