If you see smoke coming from manholes or street vents this week, don’t worry. It’s all part of the City of Vacaville’s ongoing sewer system testing, aimed at keeping the system flowing smoothly.

Tuesday’s area of focus was the Leisure Town area off of Yellowstone Drive. Crews were busy throughout the day setting up equipment around manholes in the area and then releasing a harmless smoke into the sewer system. It’s all part of Vacaville’s ongoing effort to protect and maintain its public sewer infrastructure.

The smoke testing is expected to continue from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day through Aug. 25.

The crews work methodically, forcing a non-toxic, odorless smoke through sections of the sewer system and observing where it escapes — whether from manholes, yards, or even building vents. The
