SAWYER, N.D. (KMOT) - North Dakota’s weather has been on a roller coaster ride this season.
From droughts to downpours to heat and to severe storms all during this spring and summer, it left some crops struggling and even damaged in parts of the state.
But a greenhouse in Sawyer is thriving despite the extremes.
Quinn Renfandt grows tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers, among other produce, all in his controlled greenhouse environment in Sawyer.
It’s an innovative setup, especially considering Sawyer has already seen 17 severe thunderstorm warnings this year, along with a tornado watch, according to our First Warn Weather Team.
But he said the greenhouse offers him peace of mind.
“We don’t have a lot of the worry of hail being a completely protected, covered area,” said Renfandt.
