Twenty Yukon wildland firefighters and an agency representative are off to Saskatchewan to help fight fires.

Kara Slobodzian, the director of communications for the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency, told the News by email that crews from the Yukon are being sent to the Weyakwin complex, the PISEW fire and the Western response area.

The southcentral province has 85 wildfires burning and nine communities under an evacuation order, according to an update from the Saskatchewan agency as of 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 12.

Seventeen of those fires aren’t contained, 43 are considered ongoing assessments and 20 are listed as protecting values, as noted in the online update.
