EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Fourteen young cats on their way to Massachusetts from Maryland are now at the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RISPCA) after their transport van got into a crash in East Providence Tuesday.

RISPCA's Stephanie Van Patten told 12 News the cats were being brought to the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA) Cape Cod Adoption Center at the time of the crash, which happened on Warren Avenue.

Van Patten said good Samaritans from a nearby business assisted the driver with wrangling a few of the cats that escaped the transport van.

The cats were not injured and were brought to the RISPCA in Warwick. Van Patten said the cats will stay overnight until the MSPCA can pick them up sometime Wednesday. • (
