KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Zoo Knoxville has recently added a few new neighbors next to its rhino exhibit. WVLT went Wind Inside Zoo Knoxville to check out their newest residents: six female ostriches.

“So these guys, they’re very curious. They’re very social and they’re very silly,” said Birdkeeper Rebecca Ziegler. “So having this flock all together, they usually spend time with up to six to 100 birds. So watching them interact with each other kind of figuring out their pecking order, that’s kind of their most enriching thing right now.”

Ziegler said that these birds have their own way of learning the world around them.

“They do bite, but it’s not out of aggression. These guys are very curious, like I said, and they tend to investigate with their mouth,” she said. “So it’s just them try
