PRINCETON, WV (WVNS) -- Several agencies are reporting a recent spike in overdose cases throughout Mercer County.
Mark Brooks, Chief Executive Officer of Princeton Rescue Squad, said overdoses are showing up more frequently in Mercer County over the past few days.
He said these cases are a bit unusual, but not entirely unexpected.
Though the trend has been a steady decrease in overdoses throughout the state, he said every so often there will be local spikes like this one.
"Typically, about two or three a day. And that's gone up quite a bit for the last little month or so," said Brooks.
Brooks said these local spikes are typically caused by either an overabundance of illegal substances in the area or a new substance coming into the area that's been laced with something more potent, lik
