WALKER, Mich. — The Walker Fire Department (WFD) was dispatched to a residential neighborhood Tuesday evening after a lightning strike ignited an underground natural gas line.

WFD arrived at the 1000 block of Sunset Lane sometime around 6 p.m. to respond to a fire caused by the lightning strike.

When firefighters arrived the found a small blaze near a tree stemming from an underground natural gas line.

WFD was able to extinguish the fire while DTE workers also on scene assisted in locating and repairing the leak in the gas line.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m., WFD had cleared the scene while DTE remained to continue and complete the repairs on the gas line.

No injuries were reported, but authorities are asking people to stay clear of the area until the leak is repaired.
