(KIMT NEWS 3)-- A recent legal settlement in Minnesota has capped monthly insulin costs at $35, while also expanding access to free emergency insulin. This comes as Iowa lawmakers consider a proposal to further lower that cap.

Jacob Herold of Decorah, who has managed Type 1 diabetes since first grade, shared his perspective on the potential impact.

"I'm a type one diabetic. So yeah, I've been since first grade so about seven years old," Herold said.

Herold uses a T-slim pump for his injectable insulin and is fortunate to have good insurance coverage. He pays about $90 for a three-month supply, or $30 a month. However, he recognizes that not everyone is as fortunate.
