YAKIMA, Wash. – The “Cruise the Ave” event planned for Saturday, August 16 in downtown Yakima has been canceled.

The decision was made by police in light of an officer-involved shooting on August 9 that has affected police staffing.

During cruise nights, additional officers are usually deployed. However, due to the recent incident, the Yakima Police Department (YPD) is unable to provide the necessary staffing this Saturday.

Canceling the event will enable on-duty officers to focus on priority calls instead of managing the cruise night.

The YPD and the City of Yakima expressed gratitude to the community for their understanding and continued support.
