A veterinary practise in North Yorkshire has put out a warning for dog owners to be vigilant whilst out on the moors after two dogs were bitten by venomous snakes.

The Beck Veterinary Practice in Whitby has had two dogs brought in to the clinic in the past week with adder bites.

A spokesperson for the vets said: "The adders come out in hot weather to sunbathe and dogs are often bitten on the mouth as they try to grab the snake or on their paws as they try to work out what the creature is."

One of the dogs that was bitten by an adder was Malc, who's owners said they "can't praise the vets enough."

Malc's owners advised other dog walkers to ensure they don't stop if they see an adder, as an "inquisitive dog may think it's interesting too."
