Charities across the Channel Islands are urging people to think twice about what they donate after seeing a rise in low-quality and broken items.

They say it costs them time and money to throw away every product and while they appreciate the thought, unsellable donations hinder rather than help them.

On the days Jersey's La Collette Recycling Centre is closed, a charity told ITV News that it sees a rise in low-quality donations.

Robert Mackenzie from Guernsey's Friends of Citizens Advice Charity Shop adds that their store can take electrical products as they PAT test them to ensure they are safe to resell, but they cannot do anything with faulty items.
