HILO, Hawaii (Island News) -- Former UFC star B.J. Penn appeared in court on Tuesday defending himself as his mother sought to have the temporary restraining order she has against him extended for a year.

Penn, 46, was arrested in May for family abuse charges against his 79-year-old mom Lorraine Shin. In previous hearings, his family claimed that he suffers from a mental disorder called Capgras syndrome, where he believes his mother has been replaced by an imposter.

In court on Tuesday, Penn said, "This isn't something where I'm like, yeah, right on. Look, I told you, you're not my mom. Well, that means, where's my mom? You know, these are just crazy things, crazy times."
