BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Vermont Public Radio went on the air for the first time on this day in 1977.

This video from the early 80s shows the VPR operation in its first home in Windsor.

It was the state’s first non-profit, non-commercial radio station.

They added a second transmitter in Burlington in 1980 and continued to expand, creating a statewide network.

In 2021, the radio operation merged with Vermont Public Television and rebranded as Vermont Public.
