President Donald Trump’s federal seizure of Washington, D.C.’s police force and deployment of the National Guard is being sold as a crusade against “crime, bloodshed and bedlam.” In truth, it’s a political maneuver dressed up as public safety.

This is not about lowering crime rates in the nation’s capital. It is about utterly weak posturing by a cowardly president making racial dog whistles, provoking political opponents and, more than anything else, distracting the public from a story he wants you to forget: the still-unreleased Epstein files.
