SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - Greene County deputies are asking you to be on the lookout for people who may be tampering with overhead phone lines.

Deputies report that copper wire thefts are on the rise across the county.

“So, we’re really asking for the public’s help in recognizing when that’s happening and calling 911 to report it to us, so we can take care of the problem,” said Greene County Deputy Derek James.

Thieves across Greene County are taking to new heights to nab their prize. Surveillance showed overhead phone lines pulled down and stripped of their copper.

“So the criminals are either getting a ladder up, climbing the pole to cut the wires down, or using a rope to pull the wires down and cut them that way,” said Deputy James.

Here’s what the sheriff’s office wants you to do.
