CLARKSTOWN – One motorist was killed and a second one sustained life-threatening injuries when a driver rear-ended a 2009 Nissan was disabled and partially in the lane of travel on the shoulder of the northbound Thruway in the Town of Clarkstown.

State Police said the disabled vehicle’s lights were off at the time of the accident at around 12:40 a.m. on Monday.

Police said the driver of the Nissan, identified as Steven Redner, 47, of Tallman, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the other car, a Ford, was a 25-year-old Elmsford man, who sustained life-threatening injuries. He was transported to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.

State Police were assisted at the scene by Nanuet EMS and the Nanuet Fire Department. The investigation is ongoing.
