A Branch County man was sentenced to prison on Monday for sexually assaulting a minor in 2016, the Michigan Attorney General's Office announced.

Alex New, 55, was recently extradited from Florida. He was convicted by a Branch County jury in June of two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, court records show.

Judge P. William O'Grady of the 15th Circuit Court sentenced New to 25-50 years for each first-degree criminal sexual conduct count and 8-15 on the second-degree criminal sexual conduct charge, officials said. The sentences will be served consecutively.

After completing his sentence, New would be subject to lifetime electronic monitoring, officials said.
