Callie Mattus, Elgin Elementary School’s second-grade teacher, was named a semifinalist for the Arizona Education Foundation’s (AEF) Teacher of the Year award earlier this month. She was one of 10 semifinalists for the award, whose winner will be announced in October at a ceremony in Phoenix.

The 2026 Arizona Teacher of the Year awards are the 44th year that the AEF has recognized teachers across the state for their dedication to their students and communities. Teachers that are nominated by members of their community each spring then fill out a short application and send in a video, and the selection committee selects ten semifinalists and five honorable mentions from hundreds of nominees. ×
