SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) - A difference is being in the city regarding squatters. Police Chief Wayne Smith detailed the latest numbers to city council Tuesday of Operation Ask Blue that launched April 2.

64 suspects have been arrested for squatting. 61 of those cases have been closed and three have outstanding bench warrants.

The arrests are broken down into parts of the city. With two squatting arrests made in north Shreveport, 32 in the Highland area, 21 in west Shreveport, and nine in south Shreveport.

Chief Smith said since city council and Mayor Tom Arceneaux approved the ordinance that gives police more authority to arrest squatters, calls to the department to report squatters have gone down by 15%.
