Maryland Gov. Wes Moore stated his opposition to President Donald Trump’s deployment of National Guard troops in Washington, D.C. during an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, saying that he is “embarrassed” and “angered.”
The president has suggested expanding this approach to other cities, including Baltimore. Moore, however, called the move “deeply dangerous” and criticized the use of military personnel for political purposes.
“I will not authorize the usage of Maryland National Guard forces for missions that I do not deem to be either mission critical or mission aligned,” Moore said.
