LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Over the Labor Day weekends from 2019 to 2023, Michigan recorded a total of 44 driver fatalities.
According to the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI), 43.2% of those crashes involved drivers who were alcohol and/or drug-impaired.
In response, the Michigan Impaired Driving Task Force launched the ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ campaign, which will run from August 15 through September 1.
The campaign will feature increased law enforcement presence and public messaging to raise awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence.
Michigan State Police, along with local and county agencies, will be encouraging motorists to make safe driving decisions as they celebrate the end of summer and the Labor Day holiday.
