SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (WILX) - After winning the Michigan Amateur Championship in June, Michigan State golfer Caleb Bond advanced his way through a playoff in the U.S. Men’s Amateur Championship on Wednesday morning at the Olympic Club in San Francisco.
The Williamston native then faced No. 12 seed Charlie Forster from England in the first round of match play. Bond was able to win holes 5, 6, and 9 to take a commanding three-hole lead early on.
Bond closed out his day with a 2 and 1 victory to advance to the Round of 32.
Bond now tees off at 9:10 a.m. PT against No. 21 seed Davis Johnson in Scottsdale, Arizona.
