Members of the Carbonear Fire Department happened to be in the right place at the right time to discover and douse a fire at Gunner’s Pond behind the town last night.

Emergency responders were on the scene of a medivac at Pike’s Field around 7:30 last evening according to mayor Frank Butt, when they happened to notice the smell of smoke.

When they investigated, they found a fire burning about 100 feet off the road near Gunner’s Pond.

Members of the Carbonear Fire Department and the Harbour Grace Fire Brigade managed to knock the fire down in short order.

Mayor Butt says had it not been for their quick response, he dreads to think of what might have happened.
