For one last preseason showing before the season started, all of the public high schools’ soccer teams in Sampson County gathered at Clinton High School on Saturday for the sixth annual Soccer at the Swamp jamboree, adding in schools from neighboring Duplin, Wayne, Johnston and Cumberland counties for a day full of soccer and sunshine. While these were just scrimmages for the last time this year, they gave teams one last tune-up and, at times, a preview of games to come this fall. Each scrimmage was a running 40-minute clock with no breaks taken, simulating one half of a regular-season game.
