Shawn Tyler Willis pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. He was 16 at the time of the April 2020 killing.

Willis admitted to shooting his mother, 38-year-old Sandy Willis, twice while she slept because she took away his phone, according to District Attorney General Dave Clark.

Willis told investigators his motive for the shooting was that he was upset his phone was taken away, the DA said.
