SARASOTA, Fla. ( WWSB ) - Tropical Storm Erin isn’t looking very organized right now. Most of its storm activity is scattered, with just one strong thunderstorm area near its center and weak, broken rainbands stretching out around it. Satellite data and wind measurements show Erin’s strength holding steady at about 45 mph (40 knots).

Erin getting stronger because it’s moving over ocean waters that are only moderately warm, around 79 to 81 degrees and is pulling in dry, stable air, which makes it hard for the thunderstorms to grow. The thunderstorms are the life blood of the hurricane. But that may change soon.
