GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Six Michigan communities were awarded with $250,000 in grants, according to the Michigan Strategic Fund.

The State Historic Preservation Office is distributing the money to Battle Creek, Kalamazoo, East Lansing, Mason, Saginaw and Detroit.

Battle Creek’s grant will give the city an opportunity to hire a preservation consultant that will set up design guidelines regarding historic preservation.

Kalamazoo’s grant will go towards hiring a contractor who is qualified to prepare an assessment report for the city hall. The document will give the city information on how to make decisions related to preservation treatments, according to the SHPO.
