FOLLY BEACH – Parking rates on the island in some city-owned lots will be more expensive starting this fall.

Folly Beach City Council passed a resolution on Aug. 12 to raise parking costs in certain lots next to public beach access paths along Arctic Avenue. The new rates are set to go into effect in 90 days.

The lots near the center of the island, found on Arctic Avenue and Ashley Avenue between 5th Street East and 5th Street West currently cost $2.50 an hour, with a daily max of $10.50.

Starting Nov. 10, drivers who choose to park in these lots will be charged a flat seasonal rate.
