CHARLESTON — A production brewery is closing one chapter as another one begins.
Rusty Bull Brewing Co . has for the last three years partnered with Chucktown Brewery to operate a taproom at 337 King St. The establishment, whose lease ends on Aug. 31, permanently closed on Aug. 10.
The decision to depart the venture was due in part to the landlord's goal of converting the space to retail, Rusty Bull owners Ben Mayer and Brian Bogstad told The Post and Courier. The address has housed dining venues for decades, with Kickin' Chicken operating from 1999 to 2020 before being replaced by Chucktown Brewery in 2021.
Rusty Bull joined the business a year later, teaming up to produce beer at what became the only brewery in downtown Charleston's Historic District.
