Terrified children sobbed as they witnessed a fellow train passenger smash a bottle over another man’s head.
A fight had broken out in the carriage after an early-evening service left Motherwell, Hamilton Sheriff Court heard this week.
Patrick Vandeleur, 36, admitted assaulting a man whose identity is unknown on October 19 last year.
But it seemed Vandeleur, of Flaxmill Avenue in Craigneuk, came off worse than his victim as he required surgery for a deep wound to his hand.
Rebecca Clark, prosecuting, said the train was heading from Motherwell to Lanark around 7pm.
