Organizations across metro Detroit will give school supplies away to families in-need.

On Aug. 13, families can get backpacks filled with supplies and two Detroit Zoo tickets.

The cost of supplies add up fast — and when parents are buying pens and notebooks for multiple children, the costs add up even faster.

The majority of metro Detroit school districts are set to welcome students back late this month and in early September. With consumer prices rising , supply needs may mean more families going into debt this year before the school year has even begun.

But many metro Detroit organizations are eagerly stepping in to help families in need. Here's when and where organizations are holding school supply drives this month:

Aug. 13: Detroit Zoo, 8450 W. 10 Mile Road, Royal Oak
