NEW CASTLE, Colo. (KREX) - A brush fire that burned nearly 7 acres near U.S. Interstate 70 was extinguished Tuesday.
According to Colorado River Fire Rescue (CRFR), the fire started after a trailer lost a wheel, which ignited dry grass along the roadway. The blaze was just east of the I-70 eastbound on-ramp at mile marker 105.
The eastbound lanes on the interstate were closed for a few hours as drivers were detoured to U.S. Highway 6.
CRFC responded with two Type Six engines, a tender, a battalion chief and two chief officers.
The Glenwood Fire Department, Interagency Fire crews and personnel, the Colorado Department of Transportation, Garfield County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado State Patrol and the New Castle Police Department also responded to the blaze.
