PHENIX CITY, Ala. (WTVM) - Two women were arrested after allegedly committing absentee voter fraud in an upcoming municipal election in Phenix City.

Thalia Hardin and Valerie Carter were charged with multiple absentee voting violations. They are accused of engaging in illegal ballot harvesting.

According to police, Hardin and Carter advised investigators that they were volunteering for District 3 city council candidate Jamar Gayles.

The Phenix City Police Department began investigating after receiving reports of multiple suspicious absentee voter applications being received by the City Clerk’s Office.
