Drunken driving: Interstate 77

On July 20, police observed a black Chevrolet pickup truck speeding while traveling south on I-77.

The vehicle was clocked at 104 mph in a 60 mph zone -- through an active construction area with workers present.

After an extended “slow roll,” the truck stopped.

The driver said he was headed to his home in Independence, despite the fact that he had obviously already passed the exit.

The officer smelled booze and observed that the man appeared to be dazed and lethargic. He also slurred his words.

After failing a field sobriety test -- during which he swayed, lost his balance and stumbled backward -- the man was arrested for drunken driving.

During a search of the pickup truck, police found a loaded gun.
