SPARTANBURG — U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham’s campaign stop at the Beacon Drive-in was contentious at times, with hecklers shouting questions and interrupting what was otherwise a routine stump speech about his reelection bid and world politics.
The popular restaurant on John B. White Sr. Boulevard is a frequent campaign stop during election season. While the crowd on Aug. 12 was mostly a mix of supporters and others wanting to get a glimpse of Graham, there was a small contingent in the audience who rejected his record and stance on President Donald Trump’s immigration policies .
The five-term Republican senator at times welcomed the back-and-forth with the hecklers, even telling someone from his campaign team to let the discourse continue despite the interruptions.
