SANTA MONICA, Calif. (KABC) -- Palisades Charter High School students returned to class Wednesday, but they didn't go to their campus - they showed up at a former department store in Santa Monica.
The Palisades Fire in January caused extensive damage to their school.
They held remote classes after the fire, but in April, the school relocated to a former Sears store on 4th Street and finished off the previous school year.
"It was challenging for sure... just adjusting to a new campus and having to deal with new classes and rooms and moving around everywhere," said senior Owen Fisher. "It was a challenge, but we got through it."
While their school is being rebuilt, some 2,500 students will attend classes at the refurbished multi-story building for the first semester of the school year
