GUILFORD, CT (WFSB) - A UPS employee received the Guilford Police Department Citizen Award after she helped a local avoid a phishing scam.

The worker, named Missy, was working at the UPS store when a customer came in to send a package.

According to police, Missy identified several red flags which made her worry the package was related to a scam.

Police said the customer was talking to Missy while on the phone and appeared to be taking instructions from someone on the line.

The customer was reported to be flustered and confused when explaining the shipment.

“Missy asked pertinent questions about the package, believing it was a scam, but the customer, being coached on the phone, lied to her about the package and the contents,” police said.
