CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Division of Police reports that one person is dead and a suspect who was shot by officers is in stable condition after an incident on the city's west side on Wednesday.

According to Cleveland Police Chief Annie Todd, officers responded to West 73rd and Clark Avenue for "unknown trouble" at approximately 1 p.m. They discovered a man with a gunshot wound who was later pronounced deceased.

On Thursday, the victim was identified by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office as 38-year-old Deonte Alexander.

"The suspect description was given to the responding officers who then started canvassing the area and located a male possibly fitting that description," Todd explained. "The officers engaged in an interaction with that male, and in that time shots were fire
