ACLU of Michigan announced Aug. 13 that it filed a civil lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Detroit regarding excessive force by Warren police officers in December 2022.

Christopher Gibson accused officers of shocking him with a stun gun, threatening him with a police dog and assaulting him in the city lockup. He, his mother told police he needed mental health help.

A Detroit man with a mental illness is suing the city of Warren and at least a dozen of its police officers, accusing them of assaulting him and denying him mental health assistance while he was in a holding cell inside police headquarters in 2022.
