LOWER TOWNSHIP — A hotel could be coming to the ferry terminal, staff with the Cape May-Lewes Ferry told the Township Council at a recent meeting.
The area is not zoned for a hotel.
One solution mentioned by township attorney Robert Belasco could be the creation of an area in need of rehabilitation, the latest example of communities considering that option to spur development.
The proposal has been under consideration for years, ferry operations director Heath Gehrke told members of the council. In the near term, he said, the Delaware River and Bay Authority may put out a request for proposals from potential developers of a hotel.
Gehrke said the ferry wanted local input from the start of a formal process, both from elected officials and from residents.
