BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) -- A man has pleaded guilty to negligent homicide and illegal use of a weapon in a 2021 shooting that left a Zachary father dead.
East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore confirmed to Louisiana First News that Nicholas McQuirter, 21, has pleaded guilty to negligent homicide and illegal use of a weapon in the death of Dezmond Hamilton, 34. As part of his sentence, McQuirter will serve five years of supervised probation.
The case stems from a July 2021 incident in Zachary, when police responded to a home on Hayfield Drive. Police said McQuirter, who was 17, climbed through a second-story window.
