Upstate woman dies in early morning house fire, authorities say

GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. —

A woman has died following a house fire early Wednesday morning in Greenville County, South Carolina, according to local authorities.

While working to put out the fire, firefighters found one deceased person in the home.

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office, Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, and the South Carolina State Fire Office responded to the scene to assist in the investigation.

The victim has been identified as Margaret Louis Alexander, a resident of the home.

Alexander was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the coroner.

An autopsy done later that day determined her cause of death to be smoke inhalation and burns.

Deputies say the manner of death has been ruled an accident.
