Gov. Gavin Newsom on Wednesday announced a campaign in favor of a special election attempting to counteract efforts from Texas to send more Republicans to Congress.

At the request of President Donald Trump, Texas is planning to redraw its congressional lines for members of the U.S. House of Representatives for Republicans to maintain control of the Lower House after the 2026 midterm elections.
