LANSING, Mich. — Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has until 12 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22 to respond to a lawsuit seeking a special election for a vacant Michigan Senate seat, a judge ordered Tuesday.
It's been over seven months since Michigan's 35th Senate District seat was vacated after now-Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet (D) was sworn in to the U.S. House of Representatives.
Gov. Whitmer has not yet called a special election to fill Rivet's seat following her departure and in response, seven residents from the 35th Senate District filed a lawsuit against the governor.
