Welland drivers should expect long delays on a two-kilometre stretch of Niagara Street as road strengthening and resurfacing work is carried out.
Brennan Paving, based in Port Colborne, is handling the project on behalf of Niagara Region as part of its annual roadwork program.
The region maintains 1,738 kilometres of roadway across Niagara and inspects one-third of the road network annually. Its focus is on regular preventive maintenance, which can extend the life of a roadway.
As part of the work, crews will mill off the top layer of asphalt, repair cracks in the base layer, and replace damaged concrete curbs.
On its website , Niagara Region said drivers can expect single-lane closures, with work carried out in the evenings and longer than normal wait times.
