The host team at this year’s Minto Cup Championship would like nothing more than to party like it was 2001 when the four-team tournament wraps up next week at Meridian Centre in St. Catharines.

That was the last time the St. Catharines Athletics took the Canadian junior-A lacrosse title as the host team. They were also home when they captured their first Minto Cup in 1947 and their fourth in 1991.

In all, the Athletics have won six national championships.

Standing in the way of a seventh are three teams, all of them champions of their respective leagues this year.
